43 Before 43: Take Myself To the Movies

News flash – until recently I’d never been to the movies on my own.  Weird, I know. Solo movie viewing seems to be a rite of passage into independent womanhood I missed.

The reason? Mostly because I don’t see my friends enough as it is and we hardly ever go to the movies because we tend to be talkers and that isn’t really conducive to movie going.

Fast forward a few short months into parenthood and suddenly doing things all by myself seems like a great idea. Yes, I still miss my friends, but the sheer bliss of only answering to myself outweighs my need for adult conversation.

What movie shall I see? The Artist {loved} and Friends with Kids {enjoyed enough} *

What theater should I go to? – Varsity in Davis and Tower in Sacramento

Where shall I sit?  – Wherever I want.

What will I do while I wait for the movie to start? – Words with Friends and wonder if I’ll be alone the entire movie.

Two hours alone without a little person hanging on me? Oh my!

Needless to say, I’ve decided to make this a monthly treat.

What regular treats do you do for yourself?

* other things I’ve seen recently on Nexflix Watch Instantly which I recommend – Being Elmo and The Pixar Story.

  2. I just took myself to the movies for the first time last week! I went and saw Titantic in 3D. I love, love, love that movie and the love story makes me swoon everytime. I was totally alone in the theater and it was a great experience. It was like Rose and Jack fell in love for me. :)

    • brittany: i was totally alone when i saw friends with kids and i kept wondering if that was how i was going to be killed. i think i watch too much dexter.

ps – i’ve never seen titanic. i think i was too old when it came out. i know, revoke my girl card.

      • You’ve never seen Titanic? OMG go to your nearest theater and see it immediately.

ps- I was totally afraid at one point someone was coming in to murder me, but then I realized it was just the movie theater staff…

  3. regular massages, leisurely cups of joe at cafes (i be loving insight coffee roasters right now), bookstores, and meditating when the kids are gone or asleep (what used to be a “to-do” feels like club med, even for just 20 minutes).

    • christine: regular massages are definitely something i have done in the past and plan to return to once we’re….. more established? ruby starts school? i have no idea, but i’m gonna get there i swear!

i hear you on the meditation – i think i’m finally coming around to it. so looking forward to sitting together with the mamas!
