My Best Of…

Public workers’ rights are under attack in Wisconsin. Mrs. Ripp -one of my favorite teacher bloggers – lives in Wisconsin.

Here’s an excerpt from her post “I Am a Teacher” –

Teachers are not made in college, they become them in the classroom.  Teachers reach out to anyone that enters their worlds, and they impact every single aspect of this American life.  Support them, cherish them, and right now, fight for them and their rights. We are here to help America succeed and grow, not to take the blame.

What can we do?

Sarah from Pink of Perfection invites readers to share ideas on How To Find Calm In the Work Day. Do you have anything to add?

Doing one thing at a time is one of Sarah’s calming tips and one I struggle to follow – especially online.

Recently, I’ve been spending much less time on social media (Facebook and Twitter) – I’ve been on a sort of accidental Social Media Diet as Tammy from Rowdy Kittens calls it. Check out her video for tips on how to ease yourself away from the online.

My Best Of…

One of my 11 for 2011 is to get more consistent cardio in my life, apparently I’ll be doing it in the morning via Becky and Hollee’s (Good Enough Is) The New Perfect.

Are you looking for some last-minute crafty gift ideas you can use to keep your kids busy? Check out Molly’s ideas on Charlotte’s Fancy.

What are you working on? Are you excited about it? Excitement is key.

In my quest to dump cable tv, I’ve run into some problems. Our internet connection is inconsistent, so watching TV and movies is remarkably maddening. In researching our options for new internet, I’m more confused than ever. Just how many monthly bills will I have to commit to? – If you have any advice for a solid connection in Midtown Sacramento, I’d appreciate it.

Just to further cement my giant crush on Gretchen Rubin, there’s this: Treat Yourself Like A Toddler.

My Best Of…

Be Yourself, But Keep Your Inner Jerk in Check – Gretchen Rubin’s interview with Bob Sutton who wrote a book called The No Asshole Rule: Building a Civilized Workplace and Surviving One That Isn’t.

Catchy title, huh? I think he should have stopped at The No Asshole part.

Just so we’re clear, I would not be against someone passing that book along to me to read.

I love Gretchen’s interviews. They remind me of the Inside the Actor’s Studio interviews with James Lipton because the questions are the same each time. All the answers are completely different because of the diversity of the subjects, but it gives the reader a familiar framework. LOVE!

+++++

Speaking of Inside The Actor’s Studio 10 questions… have you ever wanted to answer them yourself? If so, head on over to The Pondering Yogini’s place to do it.

I did it. I had a hard time picking a favorite curse word. Sort of.

Beware of the next link. You may laugh so hard spit your coffee on your computer screen. This just in from Just a Titch.

Confession time: I am a minimalist blog  junkie. I adore hearing about people living with less stuff, not buying anything new and making do with what they’ve got.

Since my mid-twenties I’ve been obsessed with frugality. I’ve read book after book and now I follow many frugality and minimalist blogs.

I can’t get enough of minimalist and frugality blogs.

Oh, the irony.

Recently, I described myself as “minimalist lite” – someone who does all those things above, but hasn’t  made the commitment to downsizing completely.

Yet.

So here’s a question for you –

Would you ever get rid of your diamond engagement ring?  Even if it put you into debt and caused ongoing conflict in your relationship? Tammy over at Rowdy Kittens is deciding what to do. Click over to weigh in.

The In Case You Missed It Edition! Volume 2

I’ve recently discovered the wonderful world of blogs, Twitter and the idea of creating community online. I am aware I am late to the party, however it’s better to be late than never arrive.

Who knew the Internet was full of such wonderful, caring, compassionate people?

Occasionally, I’ll post my favorite posts from other people here.

The In Case You Missed It Edition!

Impermanence — My father has Alzheimer’s disease.  Last night, during a family conference call, we decided it is time to move him into the dementia unit of the retirement community where my parents live…..

Bob has a way of cutting right to the important parts. See if you can read this without feeling deeply.

Good Enough is the New Perfect is the title of the upcoming book by my Twitter friends @holleeinbalance and @beckyinbalance. Their  blog is a treasure box full of gems about issues around work and family. A must read! Plus Hollee is a fellow yogi!

This week’s guest post is by a woman who has 30 HOURS of LEISURE time a WEEK. If that doesn’t grab your attention, I don’t know what will. It sure got mine.

Social Change Through Simple Living pretty much sums it up, doesn’t it? That’s what @RowdyKittens is all about. Tammy S is a former Sacramentan, now Portlander (hello, opposite of me!) explores the notion of living a fuller, richer life with less stuff. I think she may be on to something.

The Beet Goes On is my friend V3’s chronicling of her life in NYC. Filled with food photos that make you want to bite your monitor. This girl rocks.

Last but not least, the woman with so many ideas I want to steal.

Office Hours at Gwen Bell, Big Love in a Small World. – LOVE HER.  I wish I was in Boulder. I just may have to copy this. Who wants to meet for office hours?

If you have a favorite blog that you’d want everyone to read if you were in charge of the universe, please let me know about it here. Leave me a comment about your favorites and maybe I’ll start reading them too.
