Song notes:

1. Jenny Lewis is adorable. The first time I saw her as an adult I wondered if she was in Camp Beverly Hills. The answer turned out to be yes. Who knew?

2. Apparently Rilo Kiley broke up recently. Guess I’ll just have to stick to these hits.

3. I am a sucker for a hand clap song.

Song notes:

1. A little solo road trip let me dig deep into my old97s/Rhett Miller catalog. {I’ve been banned from playing them while the hubs is home. He seems to think he’s heard them enough over the years. Whatevs.}

2. Seeing Rhett play this live is a little slice of awesome because of the duet nature of the song. One side of the audience gets the male Rhett and the other gets the female.

There are also crazy internet rumors about women from the audience coming up on stage to sing with him. {What a ridiculously terrifying fantasy/nightmare!}

3. Are you in Sacramento August 14th? If so, maybe we’ll get to see him play this at  Harlow’s.

Love listening to commercial class rock stations in the car between here and the Bay Area. You get to hear exactly the same songs you listened to growing up practically in the same rotation. Makes for great sing along car rides.

Song notes:

1. Undoubtably one of the best American rock and roll songs of all time. Seriously, who doesn’t love this song? If that’s you, don’t tell me. It might ruin our relationship.

2. American Girl is one of those songs that makes me want to learn to play guitar and get over singing in public.

3. Overheard conversation in my husband’s 4th grade class several years ago, “I know, Mr. B., only Tom can be Petty.”

4. I broke my I-hate-concerts-at-big-venues rule a couple of years ago to see Tom Petty play on a big screen from half a mile away. Just know I learned my lesson.

Um, so Friday got away from me in a flurry of yoga and paper. Ending school on a Thursday always throws me for a loop. So it’s Saturday and we’re having Song of the Day today instead.

The obvious choice for an end of the year song would be this, but I can’t post it because he has scared the bejesus out of me since I first saw him in the Bee Gee’s Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band movie in 1978.

Yes, I saw it in the theatre and yes, it was the worst movie – ever. And not just because I spilled an entire Dr. Pepper on my brand new white jeans.

Song notes:

1. Pat rocks. Not just the song, but the whole package. The hair, the makeup, the outfit. Now 30+ years later, she looks completely contemporary. I think I saw that shirt at Bows and Arrows last night.

2. Songs like this make me happy. And sing along really loudly.

3. I just found out Pat has a memoir out called Between A Heart and A Rock Place. Hello summer reading!

1. Sir, just what exactly is on your suit? {oh my – it did end up as a clue on Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me recently}.

If you find the suit distracting just concentrate on the lovely locks and sweet voice.

2. This song kills me every time. The soul. The heartfelt lyrics. The puppy dog eyes. {sigh}

I do wish it had a better name.

Hot Burrito #1?

Hmmmm.

3. For the record, I would love to hear Old 97s cover this song when they play at Harlow’s June 4th. AND I would love to win this Meet and Greet with the band.

Take me with you if you win?

What is the song you’d love your favorite band to cover?

Song notes:

1. I loved this song the first time I heard it in 1995. Yes, I know it actually was released in 1992. {Otherwise known as the Dark Ages}.

2. Palomine and Lamprey were in a steady rotation back in my mid-20s.

3. Who pressed the nostalgia button recently? Why am I listening to so much old {yet still so good} stuff lately? Is it my birthday? Is it winter? Who the hell knows?

What songs were you playing on repeat when you were 25?

Song notes:

1. Loves me some Pandora. Reminds me of songs I love and had forgotten about.

2. Huge fan of this record and Tomorrow the Green Grass.

3. Now I find out there are other records… must investigate!

What are some of your lost or forgotten favorite songs?
